Specializing in teaching group-based recreational German classes from Beginning through Advanced German studies. The expansive curriculum also includes coverage of German history, music, and culture. Classes are scheduled on a quarterly basis.

About the Director

     Irmgard Schlenker is the Founder and Director of the Sacramento German-American Language School. Irmgard was born in the German colony of Bessarabia. Educated in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, she emigrated to the United States with her family in 1955. There, she received degrees in Nursing and German from the California State University Sacramento. She has taught German classes for 25 years both at the CSUS Extension program and in public schools within the San Juan Unified School District. Additionally, she has held several German Language and Culture workshops for executives of the Siemens and Hewlett Packard corporations and also taught many German Language Summer Camps. Irmgard has travelled extensively throughout Europe. For twenty years she led many educational tours primarily in Germany and Western Europe.

     From 1999 to 2008, she founded and directed the German Language School promoted through the local Sacramento Turn Verein organization. In Fall 2008, she created an independent German-American Language School, teaching German Language Classes at the Central Methodist Church in East Sacramento.

     The mission of the German-American Language School is to preserve and promote, through language, the culture of the German speaking people.

No Summer Programs for 2011
    Fall Semester will be posted in May 

Note: No class on Monday, May 30, 2011 - Memorial Day

All classes are $98 for 10 sessions
